The major of Public Administration in Northeastern University started in 1988, and the Department of Public Administration was founded in 1993. The first batch of undergraduate students started their learning in 1994, and the Department of Public Administration got the qualification of awarding master’s degree and doctoral degree in 1997 and 2005 respectively. It also became one of the first 24 pilot schools offering MPA education in China in 2000. The Department got the permission of establishing the postdoctoral research station of the first-class subject Public Management in 2007.

The special research fields of the Department of Public Administration include “science and technology management and science and technology policy” and “theory and practice of governance”. Based on the platforms of Research Center for National S&T Policy (Northeast) of Ministry of S&T and Research Center for S&T Policy and Strategy of Ministry of Education, the Department of Public Administration have accumulated an abundant of scientific achievements. It completed more than 100 projects including the National Natural Science Fund projects and National Social Science Fund projects, published more than 10 of the national “Tenth Five-Year Plan” ‘’Eleventh Five-Year Plan’’ “Twelfth Five-Year Plan’’ series of textbooks, and more than 30 of academic works. The Department was awarded the “National Quality Textbooks’’ prize twice and the “Provincial Quality Textbooks” prize once. The Department was also awarded the first and second national level prize of  “Outstanding Achievements in Education”, and possessing two “National Quality Curriculums’’ and two “National Quality open video curriculums”.

The Faculty members affilitated with Department of Public Administration include 3 professors (also doctoraladvisors), 6 associate professors and 1 assistant professor. There are two gainers of the State Council  Special Government Allowances, 1 national outstanding teacher, 2 provincial outstanding teacher, 3 outstanding teacher of the NEU; 1 member of the National Social Science Committee; 1 member of the discipline appraisal group under the State Council; 1 member of the Teaching-steering Committee of Public Management under the Ministry of Education as the chairman, and 2 as committee members; 1 member of the Teaching-steering Committee of MPA  under the Office of Academic Degrees Committee of the National Council; 1 member of the Teaching-steering Committee of Public Management of Liaoning Province as the chairman; 1 member of the branch of Management in the Committee of Social Science in Liaoning Province. The teaching team is a National Level Teaching Group and the Department is the national level innovation experimental area of Talent Cultivation applying the School-Government partnership mode.
